Muse, often called Meta Muse, is a personal AI agent from Meta, announced on Sep 8, 2026. You tell it what needs to get done, in the Muse app or in WhatsApp, and it takes action: it can open a browser, fill out forms, send email, book travel and negotiate on your behalf. Longer tasks keep running after you close the app, and Muse comes back when something changes or when it needs approval, for example before it sends an email or makes a purchase.

Facts come from Meta's announcement and Help Center, plus press coverage, linked under Sources.

Short answer

  • Muse is a consumer agent built for everyday goals and errands: email, travel, forms, bills, shopping and planning. It is powered by Meta's Muse Spark model.
  • It runs on Muse Secure VM, a dedicated cloud machine per user that holds the agent and your data. A separate Sentinel agent must approve anything that reaches the internet.
  • It remembers what matters to you and can suggest things unprompted. You can tell it to forget specific details.
  • Muse is free with a weekly usage limit. Power ($20.00 a month) raises the allowance to 500M Muse tokens a week and Maximum ($100.00 a month) to 3B.
  • It is available in the US on iOS, Android, muse.ai and WhatsApp. Meta says AI glasses support is coming.

What Meta Muse is

Meta describes Muse as a secure, private personal agent that helps with your goals and suggests ideas. Talking to it works like messaging another person, which is why it is available inside WhatsApp as well as in its own app. Meta says it needs no technical experience to start.

You can give it a single task, such as sending an email or booking a trip, or a larger goal. For a goal, Muse helps draw up a personal plan, coordinates your time and resources and then moves the work forward on its own. Meta's examples include selling a car for more, lowering a bill and adjusting a training plan as the rest of your schedule changes.

Several Meta products share the Muse name. Muse is the consumer agent app. Muse Spark is the closed model behind it, which developers can call through Meta's API; press reports name version 1.3, which costs $1.25 input and $4.25 output per 1M tokens. Muse Glimmer is an open-weights model and Muse Code is a terminal coding agent.

What you can use it for

JobWhat Muse does
Email and messagesDrafts and sends email and invitations after your approval
Travel and bookingsBooks trips and restaurant tables
Forms and adminOpens a browser and completes multi-step forms
BillsCompares quotes and negotiates on your behalf
ShoppingTurns a recipe into a grocery list and checks out with Link by Stripe
PlanningBuilds plans toward a goal and keeps them current

Meta's example of memory at work: Muse can turn a recipe reel you saved on Instagram into a grocery list, suggest a menu for a dinner party and remember your friends' dietary restrictions before it sends the invites.

Muse for Mac, released on Sep 17, 2026, lets the agent work with local apps such as Files, Mail, Messages, Calendar and Notes, for tasks like tidying a Downloads folder or filling forms from local files. Local access is opt-in, and deleting or sending needs your approval.

How Muse handles security and privacy

Meta's design puts the agent and your data in one isolated machine and places a second agent in front of the network:

  • Muse Secure VM. Each person's Muse runs on its own computer in the cloud, which other agents cannot reach. Data and credentials for connected services are stored there.
  • Sentinel. A separate agent on the same machine, kept apart from Muse at the system level. Nothing Muse does reaches the internet unless the Sentinel approves it, and it asks you when needed.
  • Credentials. Muse cannot see your passwords or payment methods. Credentials you share go into secure storage that Muse can use without reading.
  • Approvals and audit trail. Muse checks with you before sensitive actions such as sending email or buying something, and shows a full record of what it has done and plans to do.
  • Access control. You choose which apps Muse connects to and how much access it gets, for example read-only or read and send for email. You can disconnect a service at any time.
  • Data use. Muse does not share your conversations or VM data with Meta's ad systems, and you can opt out of having your interactions used to train Meta's models.

Payments go through Link by Stripe, which issues a one-time card number. Meta says Muse is the first AI agent covered by Link's purchase protections. Shop Pay and 1Password support are listed as coming soon. Meta also plans a Muse Confidential VM in which the whole machine is encrypted with a key only you hold. It has not shipped yet.

Meta Muse price and plans

PlanMonthly priceWeekly usage
Free$0100M Muse tokens, per Mark Zuckerberg's launch post
Power$20.00500M Muse tokens
Maximum$100.003B Muse tokens

Meta's Help Center says the weekly allowance grows as you upgrade, and that when the free limit runs out you can upgrade or wait for it to refresh. Subscribers must be 18 or older, sign in with a Meta account and be in a country where Muse is offered. Muse and its subscriptions are in limited testing and available in the US.

Muse tokens are Meta's own usage unit. Meta does not say how they relate to Muse Spark API tokens, so this site does not convert the allowance into an API cost. In one test cited by GoSearch, a heavy session on the free plan used about 9% of the weekly allowance.

What is still missing

  • Muse is US only, and Meta has not given dates for other countries.
  • The current protections are operated by Meta. The Confidential VM, which would lock Meta out, is announced but not released.
  • Press testers reported Muse recommending restaurants that had closed years earlier, and Business Insider found it could see only the first frame of Instagram videos.
  • Meta has not published how many tasks a week each plan supports or how long a task may run.
